Looking Back/Looking Ahead

As I’m staring down the clock and willing this year to end, I thought I would pop on with only a couple hours to go and do a little reflection and reset.

2025…was the worst year I’ve had in a while. I spent much of the year very ill (kicked off with a hospital stay at the end of January and unfortunately didn’t really start to improve until the last couple months). I’ve dealt with chronic illness for 15+ years but this year really went beyond what I’ve ever experienced. Lots of things got set aside such as my reading, this blog, gaming, etc. For much of the year all I had the energy for was my job. It was rough and tested me to the extreme.

Needless to say I’m ready to put it behind me. So, let’s look forward to what I want to do in 2026.

For one, I’d like to get back to being consistent with posting here, which also means getting my reading back on track. I’ve certainly done better the last few months so I feel like it’s something I can do. I do have some specific things I’m trying to accomplish, such as getting my Netgalley current, my percentage is good but I definitely have catching up to do. I’m also sorely behind on my re-reading of Nancy Drew and would like to also re-read a number of books from my younger years (such as re-reading L.J. Smith’s books or picking up old school Point Horror).

I’d like to be more consistent with my posting on Instagram too (@de.the.wordsmith) with more book content. Not necessarily less Calypso content, just more book content.

Beyond that? I certainly have other things I want to accomplish, but I don’t want to overwhelm myself by putting too much of it into writing. At the end of the day I just want to read and write more and maintain my health. 2026 has got to be better, right?

Happy new year, everyone!

Check-in | Series I Want to Finish in 2022

Hey everyone! Since it’s the beginning of the year I’ve been thinking about goals and things I want to accomplish in 2022 and one of the things I wanted to touch on was the series I would really like to check off my list this year – some of them are carry overs from last year, I won’t lie. Let’s get into it!

Fruits Basket – I meant to finish this one up in 2021 but it just didn’t happen, I’m currently on volume six out of twelve.

Kamisama Kiss – This is another one I was hoping to complete in 2021 and I almost did it, but not quite. I’m currently reading volume 20 of 25.

Nancy Drew Reread – I’m currently on book 20 of my reread of this series, there isn’t really a defined time period on this one as it’s purely for enjoyment, but I would like to read more of them this year than I did last year.

Krewe of Hunters series – I’ve been reading this series by Heather Graham for a while but I am behind by quite a few books. I would ideally like to get caught up on this series this year.

Those are the specific series I’d like to work on this year, but there are always trilogies and such that I would like to complete. We’ll see how I do!

2021 Goals – Revisit

Hey everyone! I figured it would be good to revisit my 2021 goals since we are at the end of the year, so let’s take a look.

In regards to reading over 200 books, I have definitely accomplished that this year. I have one more day and there are a couple books/stories I’d like to finish by the end of tomorrow, but as of right now I am sitting at 243.

I did get to more of my backlist and have enjoyed my TBR game, but I wouldn’t call this one a pass or fail. I didn’t do as much as I wanted, but I did make progress. Also, in regarding to blogging, I did blog almost every day this year. The only days I didn’t post a blog were Christmas Eve and Christmas, so to me that is a win.

Now onto writing…oh boy. I did participate in both Camp Nanowrimo’s and Nanowrimo, but I didn’t reach my goals in any of them. I had high hopes for 2021, but alas, it was almost as bad if not worse than 2020. I’m not even going to say anything about 2022 because I’m having a hard time finding hope for how it will go. I think a lot of us are going into the year with the mentality of no sudden movements.

So in all I think I did pretty good, especially with the year I had. Let’s see what 2022 has in store.

2022 Goals

Hey everyone! I decided to take a couple days off blogging so I could focus on spending the holiday with my family, and I’m glad I did. I wanted to come back and talk about the goals I have for next year. Most of these are pretty broad and definitely achievable, but as this year proved those are famous last words. Let’s go over them!

  • 200+ books read
  • Get caught up on Netgalley
  • Get caught up on my TBR Challenge books
  • More audiobooks! (since working from home I have been listening to less, but would like to ramp this up again).
  • Finish at least 2 manga series
  • Participate in the Buzzword Readathon (created by BooksandLaLa on youtube).

So far that’s what I have and I think I’m going to probably leave it here. I want them to be something I can actually achieve since I’m trying to be nice to myself.

What are some of your goals? Do you think I should add any other goals?

Happy reading!
